File Recovery

This is the final phase of the recovery process. Partition and file recovery functions allow recovering badly damaged file systems (currently support of FAT16, FAT32, NTFS, Ext2/3/4, HFS/HFS+ and of
the GPT [Guid Partition Table] is included).

Insight allows to restore files from different sources:

  • Source disk attached to a DiskSense unit
  • Target disk attached to a DiskSense Gigabit Ethernet unit
  • Any disk attached to the PC
  • Image file of any disk created by Insight
  • Image file of any disk created by other software (including dd image)
Files and folders can be restored to any hdd
or USB device connected to the pc or laptop
where Atola is working on.

File Recovery Engine can extract files from badly damaged hard drives, even if all partitions are lost.

This is done by scanning the entire hard drive in search of structures that look like a file system
structure (like MFT) and recovering the original file and folder structures.

File type signatures are also used in the recovery process.

File Recovery Engine also recovers files from damaged flash cards and optical media.

Because the contents of such media almost never gets fragmented, scanning for known
file type signatures works best in this case.

A full list of good and damaged files is created at the end.
