Disk Duplication

This feature allows creating images of selected partitions or entire hard drives. Full disk duplication (making an exact
sector-by-sector copy onto another hard drive) is also available. Imaging can now copy sectors without ECC check for
all hard drive sectors. This function enables Atola Insight users to read data from bad/unreadable sectors by ignoring
ECC codes. When enabled, it is executed during the last imaging pass if all other read operations have failed.

As the imaging process goes on, the operator can adjust the copy approach and change various settings for each
session to maximize the data extraction.

Data from the multi-session imaging function is then used to aid the file recovery process. The Atola Insight pinpoints
all files that are incomplete or contain bad sectors and reports them to the user.

During the process, a bad sector map is created which is used later by our file recovery algorithms.

Atola Insight also supports:

  • Multi-pass imaging
  • Specify read/write heads to transfer from
  • Imaging of specific partitions and sector ranges
  • Imaging only occupied sectors
  • Reverse imaging
  • Read without ECC correction for all LBA48 range
  • Checksum calculation: MD5, SHA1, SHA224, SHA256, SHA384, SHA512
  • Stop/Resume session anytime
  • E-mail notifications

Both IDE and SATA I, II, III drives are supported:

The USB unit supports an IDE or SATA source drive, the target drive has to be connected to the PC.

The Ethernet unit supports a direct connected IDE or SATA I+II source drive plus the SATA I or II target
drive (or an IDE drive with a SATA to IDE adapter).

The direct data transfer over the SATA ports allows certainly a much higher speed compared with other
products working with standard IDE ports.
